Christopher Nesbitt – HV/LV Electrical, OHW and Rail Systems
B.Sc. Electrical Engineering, Grad.Dip.Eng.(Systems)
Chris’ career spans over 30 years in rail infrastructure for various government organisations and private enterprises. Chris specialises in design of traction and non-traction substations, high voltage distribution, maintenance and construction experience of 630V dc rail-pickup and 1500V dc overhead wiring, high voltage distribution, traction and non-traction substations. Chris uses his expertise to assist Rail organisations by consulting on the construction planning and commissioning of major rail projects across NSW.
Chris’ strengths lay with his ability to link to technical electrical aspects of projects from specialist designers to pragmatic delivery solutions and well constructed logic for project delivery. Chris thrives on the electrical challenge that others cannot resolve. Career Highlights and Major Projects
•Rail Systems Manager for RailCorp managing the Chatswood and Epping ends of the Epping to Chatswood Rail Link Interface Works, Sydney, including major alterations at Parramatta and Eastwood stations, plus the construction of a “bulk energy” 132/66kV supply point at Berowra to the north of Sydney. The project involved the multi-disciplined construction management of civil, track, signals, communications, OHW, HV and LV electrical infrastructure in the live rail environment. Detailed possession planning and management on over 80 possessions were the corner stone of the success of the project works.
•Project Manager Overhead Wiring for Rail Services Australia (RSA) managing the planning and construction of 1500V dc overhead wiring for the South Coast Electrification project from Dapto to Kiama. This work was undertaken with RSA acting as a Contractor to Flour Daniel.
•Electrical Technical Manager for Rail Services Australia (RSA) managing works on the New Southern Railway (Airport Rail Tunnel) Sydney. This project linked Central Station though to Turrella via Green Square, Mascot, Domestic Terminal, International Terminal and Wolli Creek. The electrical works included the design and construction of the 1500V dc overhead wiring, high voltage distribution, the construction of a sectioning hut and a traction substation, plus the low voltage fit-out of the tunnels and station electrical services including lighting and LV distribution. This work was undertaken with RSA acting as a Contractor to the Transfield Boygues Joint Venture.
