Gus’ career spans over 20 years with over 17 years in rail infrastructure for various government and private enterprises. Gus has worked through all facets of project delivery and management in delivering multi-disciplined major rail infrastructure projects.
Gus’ strength lay in his diverse experience across all disciplines and the coordination skills and interface understanding he has developed. His rail project approach includes a focus on project staging, possession planning and the management of stakeholder, contractor and live infrastructure interfaces. Gus can claim ‘hands on’ experience in almost all rail discipline facets including civil, track, HV electrical, overhead wiring, signals, station and associated communications systems installation experience and in this way Gus combines with the other members of Rail Planning Services to deliver a truly balanced team of rail experienced professionals

 

 

Profile

  • Building on an early career in road construction and modification works, Gus is a Civil Engineer with over 20 years construction and project management experience on major rail infrastructure projects for clients in the government and private enterprise. Excellent first-hand knowledge of live rail environment construction having worked through all facets of project design, delivery and management. Experienced in the delivery of multi-disciplined major rail infrastructure projects as well as station and associated rail systems installations.

Live rail constructability project lead with the Technical Advisor for the development of the reference design for the Sydney Metro City and Southwest Project. Developing the design considering the complex project interfaces with the existing Sydney Trains. NSW Trains and ARTC Freight Operations and Facilities between Chatswood and Bankstown.

NSRU Alliance – Arncliffe Station Precinct Accessibility Upgrade                                                                                                              2014

Provided preliminary constructability design review and optioneering to assist in the development of scope definition and cost estimates. Developed the construction staging to meet the clients’ delivery requirements. Developed construction methodologies with the Alliance team to ensure efficient delivery in a live rail environment including strategies to maximize the scope achieved in each track possession.

Member of the bid team and participant in the technical workshops in the tender phase of the project. Provided constructability in design reviews. Developed and managed the construction staging process to meet the clients’ completion targets. Assisting TfNSW Project Manager in providing constructability in design advice, cost estimate development, developed project construction staging and programs for the Rhodes to West Ryde Quadruplication, Lower Main North Quadruplication project and the Berowra to Hawkesbury River Triplication projects. This included detailed construction planning and concept design input for Rhodes, Meadowbank, West Ryde and Cowan Stations.

Part of the team responsible for multi-disciplinary construction management plans, construction staging,  program strategy, design input and assumptions and assisted with risk management and delivery strategy for the Chatswood to St Leonard Quadruplication – Construction Delivery Plan which included detailed construction staging surrounding the reconstruction of Artarmon Station in the live operational network the future expansion of the NWRL.

Assisting TfNSW Project Manager in providing constructability in design advice, cost estimate development, developed project construction staging and programs for both project stages including integration with concurrent major rail construction projects buy Railcorp, Novo Rail and TPD. Detailed delivery strategies and constructability in design advice assisted TfNSW in delivering robust tender documentation when going to the market for the construction delivery. Managed the complex stakeholder interfaces between TPD, RailCorp, Novo Rail, Auburn Maintenance Centre, Main Train and Freight operators.

Project Manager and Project Engineer for RailCorp and eventually the consultant for Transport for NSW on the South West Rail Link Glenfield Junction Interchange Project involving the renewal of Glenfield Junction and associated detailed interfaces with the Southern Sydney Freight Line project and the Glenfield to Leppington rail link. Developed accelerated delivery and risk mitigation strategies for early commissioning of project by motivating project team to achieve maximum utilization of track possessions resulting in project completion under budget and ahead of program. Assisted in rail systems and civil design development from concept to delivery.

Project management of construction activities for the Chatswood and Epping ends of the Epping to Chatswood Rail Link Interface Works Sydney and the Parramatta Transport Interchange Projects. Directly responsible for the Station extensions and fitout works for Epping and Parramatta Stations.
