Bob is an experienced electrical specialist with 43 years’ experience in the NSW rail environment, covering all aspects of electrical infrastructure including maintenance, construction, project management and design.

Rail Systems Manager / Technical Manager (Electrical)                                                                                                  2013 – 2017

Power supply upgrade (PSU) project – Review submissions submitted by Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO’s) for compliance to the contract requirements, standards and constructability issues. Review of equipment suppliers tenders for compliance to standards, protection requirements, drawings and documentation for high voltage and 1500V equipment and make comments and provide input to draft standards for the ASA.

Provide technical advice to AEO’s, senior project managers, project managers, technical managers, project staff and contract managers, including compliance, project concept planning, HV network system planning, detailed constructability planning, construction / commissioning staging and programming.

Traction supply upgrade (TSU), renamed Power supply upgrade (PSU) project – $750M+ – provided technical advice to project and contract managers, including project concept planning, HV network system planning, detailed constructability planning, construction / commissioning staging and programming.

Traction supply upgrade project $750M+ – Managed the following brown field substations projects: Strathfield Substation – Upgrading the substation to 3 x 5MW Rectifiers, replacing the 33kV switchgear with 20 new panels of 33kV Areva WSA GIS switchgear. $12M. Ashfield Substation – Upgrading the substation including replacing the 33kv switchgear with Areva WSA GIS indoor switchgear. $1.5M. Meeks Road Substation. – Converting the substation from an outdoor 33kV switchyard to Areva WSA GIS indoor switchgear. $4.5M. Edgecliff Substation – Upgrading the substation, new Rectifiers, 1500V DCCB’s, replacing the 33kV and 11kV switchgear. $12M.

Project Manager / Electrical Design Engineer                                                                                                   2005 – 2006

Traction supply upgrade project $750M+ – Appointed as a Project Manager but seconded to the electrical design section to provide the Concept Designs for the Traction Supply Upgrade Project, including Sutherland, Cabramatta, West Ryde, Toongabbie, Seven Hills and Warrawee Substations. Provide design for substation components, including trackside negative bars, 415V changeover panels and DTS fibre terminations.

Pennant Hills Depot Manager                                                                                                  2000 – 2005

Managed the Pennant Hills RIC depot and completed all aspects for the following projects. (design, construction, commissioning and handover). Upgraded approximately 300 railway stations power supplies to support the station lighting upgrade program. (Olympic Games initiative – Jan 2000 to Dec 2000). Completed power supplies for the Station Easy Access Program, upgraded high voltage transmission lines, (did not include design phase) and 2kV to 11kv HV feeder conversion of Strathfield to Lidcombe
