  • Rail Planning Services was engaged as the Strategic Rail Advisor for the development of the Business Case.

    Our scope included:

    • Identifying requirements for relocation of rail services and equipment
    • Advice in relation to track and civil related aspects of the plaza construction
    • OHLE & Signalling input
    • Detailed liaison with QR to clearly define all operational rail requirements affecting the deck design and construction.

This was extended to review delivery under a different possession close-down regime.

  • The Project is ongoing.

In September 2018, RPS delivered a report which documented the works required to construct the deck structure over the rail corridor using a series of conventional 48 hours monthly track closures in conjunction with midnight to dawn track possessions during a construction period of 24 months. The methodology was based on 18 track possessions (8 Mains, 7 Closedowns and 3 Suburban Possessions). In the report, an opportunity to accelerate the construction program was identified and considers track closure configurations that provided segregation of a section of the rail corridor between Platforms 6 and 10 (Mains tracks – including the tunnel) to isolate these tracks and work continuously in this area for an extended period of time.

The initial Rail Planning Services given an extension of scope to explore different possession options.
