Canberra Light Rail Stage 2
Stage 1 of a light rail network for Canberra is currently under construction and is planned to open on schedule. Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) is undertaking planning for the Stage 2 alignment. TCCS has engaged Arup as its technical advisor to assist in developing the Stage 2 project. The proposed alignment of Canberra Light Rail Stage 2 will interface with the Stage 1 at the Alinga Street Terminus and will travel from the centre of Canberra across Lake Burley Griffin, through Barton and south along major roads to Woden.
There are numerous upgrades to existing structures required along the route, most notable being either the upgrading of existing or a new bridge across Lake Burley Griffin. The project will also require the relocation and / or upgrades to existing utilities, drainage infrastructure and urban design works along the route most notable through the Parliamentary zone.
Transport Canberra & City Services
Rail Planning Services has been engaged by Arup to provide constructability input as part of the Definition Design submission for Canberra Light Rail Stage 2. We have assisted Arup in the preparation of the Definition Design through design reviews, construction methodology and staging advice to ensure any construction risks are defined at the earliest stage of the project which can be mitigated as the project and design develops.
The Constructability Report developed by Rail Planning Services provides a high-level overview of the construction methodology as the first step in identifying the construction scope and staging. This adds value to the project by providing an indication of the delivery methods, potential risks and timeframe required in delivering Stage 2 of the Canberra Light Rail.
Rail Planning Services input, through the Scope and Development stages of the project, has assisted Arup in defining and delivering the Definition Design for CLR2. We have drawn on previous experience in light rail projects, both during development and delivery phases, to provide input on lessons learnt and practical experience early in the project development to ensure the successful development and planning for future delivery of the CLR2 project.
